I'm an Iowa-born documentary photographer based in London since 2018, where I completed an MA in Photography at Kingston University. I currently balance a part-time position in Kingston's art school library with my expanding practice creating photographic archives of how we navigate daily life.
My work documents how we navigate daily life, how we tactically adapt to new technologies or new uses of old technologies.
This practice grew from living through pivotal moments: turning eighteen during the 2008 financial crash, witnessing the Arab Spring at twenty, joining Occupy Wall Street at twenty-one in Iowa City. In 2012, I sublet my apartment and bought a one-way ticket to Egypt, beginning a documentation practice that now spans two decades of political upheaval across three continents—from Iowa's Occupy movements through post-revolution Cairo, Brexit tensions, to London's facial recognition infrastructure. I'm pioneering documentary photography's expansion into 3D models to highlight what we see but don't register in our spatial environments.
I received from Arts Council England a Developing Your Creative Practice grant, which I used to develop skills in research and a 3D model making technique known as Gaussian Splats, with which I use my documentary images to make documentary 3D models. These newly developed skills enabled me to begin "A History of Facial Recognition Software in London," combining traditional documentary methods with computer vision and 3D modeling to examine and mimic emerging facial recognition surveillance technology. This work represents my ongoing interest in how cameras, screens, and algorithmic systems reshape public and private space.
I'm always wandering with camera in hand, notebook in pocket, documenting how we adapt to the landscapes of power we move through daily.
